Air Pollution Specialist

The Field Operations & Warranty Section is seeking a highly motivated Air Pollution Specialist who can interact with automobile manufacturers to identify possible emission component defects or emissions related warranty issues that can lead to corrective actions (e.g., recall) by the manufacturer. The investigative nature of this work would involve analyzing the Emissions Warranty Information Report Database and emissions data, conducting specialized field investigations and in-house vehicle test programs. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the issues related to warranty and the warranty regulations for automobiles, heavy duty diesel vehicles, as well as off-road vehicles, analyze test data and solve problems related to emissions control systems. The incumbent may be required to provide technical support for or create new regulations to further achieve the board’s objectives.  Much of the work will draw upon knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations and California Code of Regulations.

Working Conditions

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
