Auditor Controller Office Internship

The Auditor Controller Office has an internship opportunity that will provide hands-on experience with payroll processing and tax-related reporting utilizing PeopleSoft HCM and financial systems. The intern will gain an in-depth understanding of governmental accounting principles and practices as well as knowledge of payroll tax laws and retirement system regulations. 

The in-person internship will be located in Riverside and will offer a work week consisting of up to 40 hours, with flexibility granted for academic obligations. The selected candidate can anticipate the internship to span up to one year in length. 

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Under supervision, assists and participates in the work performed by employees of a specific profession; through participation, receives supervised work experience in a specific professional vocation; and performs other related duties as required.

The responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in processing and recording daily cash receipts for the organization
  • Collaborating with other accountants to facilitate biweekly payroll tax deposits and ensure accurate quarterly tax filings for Form 941 and DE9
  • Assisting in the monthly reconciliation of agency funds and collaborating with the accounting team to post journal entries to the County financial system
  • Helping with preparing and reporting W2s and W2Cs at year-end, ensuring all employee earnings and withholdings are accurately reported

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average: 2.5 GPA required. Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application

Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled/attending school at an accredited college or university in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program during the duration of the internship. Recent college graduates are also eligible to intern for up to one year following their graduation date. 

Areas of StudyAccounting, Finance, or similar.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of general ledger management and account reconciliation processes
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with other college and external customers
  • Strong organizational skills with effective written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to analyze data and draw logical, well-supported conclusions


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in payroll processing and tax reporting
  • Understanding of governmental accounting principles and procedures
  • Proficiency with accounting software and experience with financial data reconciliation and journal entry posting
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
